DesignMinders: A Design Knowledge Collaboration Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Software developers face numerous challenges in capturing and reusing knowledge during informal design sessions. While the knowledge that is brought to bear and generated during these sessions provides valuable insights that can ideally be reused, informal software design is a time when developers are gathered at the whiteboard working to solve problem and during which the developer must remain “in the moment” while engaged in discussion and sketching. In this paper we describe DesignMinders, a tool currently being developed to address these issues by augmenting an electronic whiteboard with the ability to capture, refine and explore design knowledge in the form of notecards. This paper documents our progress and describes several key challenges that we face.

DesignMinders: Preserving and Sharing Informal Software Design Knowledge
Software design is a knowledge-intensive activity. Knowledge is both generated and used when making crucial design decisions, and it is important to capture and share the knowledge in order to take advantage of the valuable insights gained. A particularly challenging setting for knowledge reuse is during informal software design sessions when developers are gathered at the whiteboard working to...
متن کاملCollaboration and Co-Production of Knowledge in Healthcare: Opportunities and Challenges
Over time there has been a shift, at least in the rhetoric, from a pipeline conceptualisation of knowledge implementation, to one that recognises the potential of more collaboration, co-productive approaches to knowledge production and use. In this editorial, which is grounded in our research and collective experience, we highlight both the potential and challenge with collaboration and co-prod...
متن کامل“Seeing” the Difference: The Importance of Visibility and Action as a Mark of “Authenticity” in Co-production; Comment on “Collaboration and Co-production of Knowledge in Healthcare: Opportunities and Challenges”
The Rycroft-Malone paper states that co-production relies on ‘authentic’ collaboration as a context for action. Our commentary supports and extends this assertion. We suggest that ‘authentic’ co-production involves processes where participants can ‘see’ the difference that they have made within the project and beyond. We provide examples including: the use of design in health projects which see...
متن کاملCollaboration Between Researchers and Knowledge Users in Health Technology Assessment: A Qualitative Exploratory Study
Background Collaboration between researchers and knowledge users is increasingly promoted because it could enhance more evidence-based decision-making and practice. These complex relationships differ in form, in the particular goals they are trying to achieve, and in whom they bring together. Although much is understood about why partnerships form, relatively little is known about how collabora...
متن کاملConnections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...
